Senior Program in Science
188L
Senior Thesis in Science 190L and 191
The senior year at Joint Science normally culminates in a research
experience and/or thesis in the student's major field. Topics for
investigation can be of the student's choosing or result from consultation
with a faculty member in the field of concentration.
The one year program consists of 188-190 and usually involves
a laboratory or field investigation with a faculty member. In 188,
a topic is chosen, background materials reviewed, research started
and seminar discussions held with faculty members and students
in the area of investigation. In 190, research is continued, culminating
in a written thesis and a poster presentation. Normally this two-semester
sequence begins in the fall semester of the senior year.
Students who wish to write a one-semester thesis involving, primarily,
library research should enroll directly in 190. This can be done
in either the Fall or Spring semesters. Laboratory work is possible
but should be minimal. A poster presentation, describing results,
is also part of the course.
The links given below will lead you to the specifics of the program.
