- GE requirements
- Major requirements
- Pre-health requirements
- Study abroad (If this applies to you, keep in mind that you cannot (with a few exceptions) take the basic prerequisites in science classes abroad. Depending on where you study, you might be able to take upper-division science classes abroad.)
Required Courses
Most health schools have the same basic requirements of:
- Biology (1 year with lab)
- Chemistry (1 year with lab)
- Physics (1 year with lab)
- Organic Chemistry (1 year with lab)
- English (1 year - Scripps Core and CMC's Freshman Humanities Seminars do not count)
- Math (1 year - usually Calculus, sometimes Statistics is requested)
- Upper Division Courses (varied)
Schedule Options
There are several suggested options for scheduling your required core science coursework. Please note that these are only suggestions and that your individual circumstances or interests may call for some variation on one of these options. Please consult with yoru faculty advisors and prehealth professions advisor for your individual concerns. Click the options that most apply to you:
Option 1: standard option
Option 2: accelerated option to allow for study abroad
Option 3: alternate standard option which can also be used for students with less math and science in their background
Option 4: decelerated option for a glide year before medical school
NOTE: If you are required to take biochemistry with a lab - a common requirements for medical, veterinary, dental, and pharmacy schools - it can only be done at Pomona or Harvey Mudd College.
