Demonstrates the phenomena of thermal conduction, convection, and evaporation cooling.
The bar is a thin strip of metal covered with a thin layer of liquid crystals. When placed near a lighted light bulb, the film changes color. This change is caused by light scattering from the crystals. The complete color spectrum is exhibited by the crystal sheet. Blue colors are associated with warmer temperatures and red colors with cooler temperatures. The film is sensitive to the temperature range of 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Note: the film can be damaged by excessive heat or pressure. |
