Time Line & Procedures for Medical School Applications
STUDENTS APPLYING FOR ENTRANCE TO MEDICAL SCHOOL FOR FALL 2006
November
- Thanksgiving Break
- Receive pre-registration packets and set up a meeting with your advisor to determine which classes you will be taking. Make sure you are on track in completing your premedical requirements.
- Mandatory Group Meetings, to discuss application process, time line, and letters of evaluation.
December
- Pre-registration
- Mandatory Group Meetings to discuss application process, time line, and letters of evaluation.
- Begin winter break, December 16, 2005
- Begin studying for the MCAT if you are taking the April or August MCAT. Possibly arrange to take an MCAT preparation course if you are taking the April MCAT—please see the MCAT section for more information.
- Begin drafts of your personal statements
- Write or update your resume
- Fill out autobiographical form
- Make sure your credit rating and that of your parents are in good condition. These ratings may affect your loan applications for medical school. Please see the How do I pay for this? section
- Have passport photograph taken and copied. Please see Photograph section for more information.
- Begin asking for letters of evaluation for Med/Dent/Vet School and have them sent to the Pre-Health Advising Office:

January
- Tuesday, January 17, 2006, begin spring semester classes.
- Finish requesting letters of evaluation from faculty. These letters are due no later than Wednesday, March 1, 2006.
- Make sure you register to take the MCAT. Friday, March 17, 2006—Regular Postmark Deadline to register for April MCAT exam. You may also register online at, http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/registration.htm. Please see the MCAT section below.
February
- Friday, February 3, 2006, Deadline to get the faculty who are writing your letters the following paperwork: All requests for letters should have been made by this date!
- updated resume
- autobiographical information form
- draft personal statement
- unofficial transcript (via the portal)
- individual faculty waivers to each professor as required
- Undergraduates meet with Dr. Copp or Ms. Olson and Post-Baccalaureate Students meet with Dr. Naftilan or Ms. Olson to go over your personal and goal statements.

March

April
- Set up an appointment with Ms. Olson to discuss where you should apply to medical school. You will need to have this meeting no later than May 15th.
- Friday, April 21, 2006—If you are taking the April MCAT, go to early movie and get to bed early—no studying!
- Saturday, April 21, 2006--April MCAT, be sure to release your scores to your premedical advisor.
May
- Fill out web based version of the AMCAS or ACOMAS available online
- Send away for non-AMCAS, non-ADSAS, non-VMCAS applications.
- Continue to study for the MCAT, DAT, or GRE if you have not taken your standardized admissions test and are taking the August MCAT.
- Have all your transcripts sent to AMCAS, ACOMAS, and TMDSAS and/or non-AMCAS schools from all U.S. colleges and universities you have attended. Do the same if you are applying through ADSA or VMCAS. For your current school, please indicate that it should be sent after spring grades are posted.
- Friday, May 12, 2006, Spring semester ends
- Check that all letters of evaluation have been received by the Pre-Health Advising Office.
June
- Register for the August MCAT (if appropriate).
- June 1 to June 30, 2006: Send in AMCAS and ACOMAS applications even if you are completing your premedical courses over the summer or plan to take the August MCAT.
- Submit non-AMCAS applications.
- Reminder—Make sure you have had all transcripts from all colleges and universities sent to AMCAS/ACOMAS/VMCAS/ADSAS/and Non AMCAS Schools.
- By the third week you should have received April MCAT scores. Consult with Ms. Olson as appropriate.
July
- Friday, July 14, 2006 —Deadline to register for August MCAT exam. You may register online at http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/registration.htm. Please see the MCAT section below.
- Please send our office a copy of your professional school application. You will receive this after they have processed your application:

August
- Friday, August 18, 2006, if you are taking the MCAT on Saturday, go to an early movie and get to bed early—no studying!
- Saturday, August 19, 2006, August MCAT exam, be sure to release your scores to your premedical advisor.
- Fill out your secondary applications and return them as soon as you get them. Notify our office to have your letters of evaluation sent. Please see the Letter of Evaluation Packet Section.
September
- Continue to fill out secondary applications and get them in as soon as possible.
October
- By the third week you should receive your August MCAT scores
- Make sure that all your application materials are completed for all the schools to which you have applied.
December
- If you have taken additional coursework, have your transcripts forwarded to all the schools to which you have applied.
January
- Complete or renew your Federal Financial Aid Application (FAFSA). You can also take do this electronically at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
March
- All medical schools should have made enough acceptances to fill their entering class. Please contact Ms. Olson at this time to discuss your status on wait lists, and how you will make selections if you are holding multiple acceptances. Please try to hold only 1-2 acceptances at a time.
May
- Medical School Applicants: by the 15th, all candidates who have acceptances are required to select the school of their choice. You can be involuntarily withdrawn from all schools for holding multiple acceptances after this deadline.
