TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN BIOCHEMISTRY/CHEMICAL BIOLOGY

The Joint Science Department seeks a biochemist or a chemist with strong biological interests who is committed to excellence in teaching and who will develop a vibrant research program that fully engages undergraduate students. The department, which houses the biology, chemistry, and physics faculty for Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges (three of the five undergraduate Claremont Colleges), offers innovative and interdisciplinary programs in the natural sciences and prides itself on its small class sizes. Many faculty actively participate in collaborative research projects, both within the department and with research groups at nearby colleges and universities. The position offers opportunities to teach in biochemistry and general chemistry, to participate in an advanced chemistry laboratory sequence, and to design and teach both upper-level electives and courses for non-science majors. A Ph.D. and a record of scholarly publication are required. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 2010.

To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a description of proposed research with equipment needs, and arrange to have three letters of reference sent to: Chemistry Search Committee, W. M. Keck Science Center, The Claremont Colleges, 925 N. Mills Avenue, Claremont, CA 91711-5916. Any inquiries should be addressed to Prof. Mary Hatcher-Skeers at mhatcher@jsd.claremont.edu. Additional information about the department may be found at www.jsd.claremont.edu. Review of applications will begin October 19, 2009, and the position will remain open until filled.

In a continuing effort to enrich its academic environment and provide equal educational employment opportunities, the Claremont Colleges actively encourage applications from women and members of historically underrepresented groups in higher education.
