TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

The Joint Science Department seeks a broadly trained Molecular Biologist for a TENURE-TRACK POSITION who is committed to excellence in teaching and who will develop a vibrant research program that fully engages undergraduate students. The department, which houses the biology, chemistry, and physics faculty for Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges (three of the five Claremont Colleges), offers innovative and interdisciplinary programs in the natural sciences and prides itself on its small class sizes. Many faculty members actively participate in collaborative research projects, both within the department and with research groups at nearby colleges and universities. The position offers opportunities to teach in our introductory biology sequence, in advanced undergraduate courses including genetics, and in a laboratory course in the candidate’s field. In addition, there will be the opportunity to design and teach courses for non-science majors. The specific focus of the research program is flexible and may include areas of microbiology, developmental biology, or neurobiology that utilize molecular biology approaches. A Ph.D. degree, post-doctoral experience, and a record of scholarly publication are required. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 2010.

To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a description of proposed research with equipment needs, and arrange to have three letters of reference sent to: Molecular Biology Search Committee, W. M. Keck Science Center, The Claremont Colleges, 925 N. Mills Avenue, Claremont, CA  91711-5916. Any inquiries should be addressed to Professor Emily Wiley at ewiley@jsd.claremont.edu. Additional information about the department may be found at www.jsd.claremont.edu. Review of applications will begin October 19th, and the position will remain open until filled.

In a continuing effort to enrich its academic environment and provide equal educational employment opportunities, the Claremont Colleges actively encourage applications from women and members of historically underrepresented groups in higher education.
